Celebrating a Milestone in Education: CCRC Open House

It was an honor to attend the College and Career Readiness Center (CCRC) Open House on September 18th, an event that marked a significant moment in the education landscape of our community. The CCRC, located at 201 E Washington Ave. in Vernon, has become a beacon of hope for local students and a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together to invest in its future.

The CCRC Open House, held from 4 pm to 6 pm, was a vibrant celebration of education and opportunity. At 5 pm, the cutting of the ribbon symbolized the official opening of this remarkable facility. The presence of dedicated staff and instructors added a personal touch to the event, as they eagerly showcased the center’s state-of-the-art resources and its vital role in our community.

This achievement, the CCRC, is an outcome of the CTE millage passed on August 2, 2022. This visionary decision allowed Shiawassee Regional Educational Service District (RESD) to centralize its Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes, providing students with a consolidated hub for their educational journey. Walking through the CCRC during the Open House, it became clear that this facility is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where dreams are nurtured, skills are honed, and futures are shaped. The classrooms equipped with technology, vocational training areas, and a welcoming atmosphere all underscore the center’s mission: to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed for successful careers.

But what truly made the CCRC Open House special was the collective pride and enthusiasm shared by everyone present. Students, teachers, parents, and community members alike were thrilled to witness the realization of a project that promises to transform lives and our community as a whole.

This event also highlighted the power of collaboration and community support. The Great Lakes Family of Companies, Gabrielle Feighner Baker of Feighner Boat Lifts and Docks, Shiawassee Community Foundation and Shiawassee RESD have all joined forces to make the CCRC a reality. Individuals and businesses can join this exciting endeavor by contributing to the CTE Fund.

Contributions to the CTE Fund will play a crucial role in shaping the future of education for local students. Your support will empower students with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers and contribute to the prosperity of our community.

Donations can be made through check or via PayPal at the following link: Shiawassee Community Foundation Donation Page. Donors are encouraged to select the “CTE Fund” in the drop-down menu to contribute directly to the establishment of the CTE school.

Our attendance at the CCRC Open House was not just a memorable experience but a testament to the power of education and community unity. We look forward to witnessing the countless success stories that will emerge from the CCRC and the positive impact it will have on our community’s future. Together, we can shape a brighter tomorrow for our youth and our community as a whole, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this journey.

The staff at the Shiawassee Community Foundation would like to recognize the hardwork and dedication of the CTE staff to make this idea a reality. Your dedication is remarkable and recognized!
