YAC Grant Awards

Over 55 people attended the Youth Advisory Council Grant Awards presentations at DeVries Nature Conservancy on April 12th.  $28,000 was provided to the community from YAC representing $25,000 from the W.K. Kellogg Fund and $3,000 from the Alford and Alice Emmert Fund. YAC is a youth leadership and service program of the Shiawassee Community Foundation comprised of teens and young adults, ages 12 to 21 from Shiawassee County and surrounding communities. 

Grants were provided to: Scouting America – Bryant Elementary Boy Scouts Scholarships (3,000); Shiawassee Arts Center – Pottery Classes for OHS Artisans (4,000); Lebowsky Performing Arts Center – Scholarships for Summer Camp (1,500); SafeCenter – Indoor Playground & Emergent Personal Care Products (3,000); Big Brothers Big Sisters Shiawassee – Site based Supplies and Activities for Low-income Bigs with Community Littles (1,000); Shiawassee YMCA – Portable AED for Camp (2,200); Owosso Pride – Activity Fees for Low-income families & Group Supplies (2,800); LEAD Shiawassee – Materials for Foster Youth support (1,000); First Congregational Church, UCC – Technology equipment for the Free Community Room (3,500); Shiawassee Hope – Emergent Food & Personal Care Supplies (6,000) 

The next meeting for YAC is May 17th at the newly renovated FCC UCC Community room.  YAC Members also encourage the community to participate in the YAC-sponsored FREE Take Back Electronics Days on May 22nd and 23rd at Owosso High School, in collaboration with Resourceful Recycling.
