Scholarship to honor local student

The Brittany Buchholz Memorial Scholarship Fund reached endowed status at the Shiawassee Community Foundation this year and will be included in scholarship cycle. In 2019, the Brittany Buchholz Memorial Scholarship Fund was opened by Jacqueline Rhine (friend) and Mary Buchholz (mother). Brittany graduated at the top of her class at Corunna High School then attended Hope College and earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology. She was a passionate dancer and tremendous animal lover.

The scholarship is open to Shiawassee County area female seniors and graduates with priority given to students planning to study in the medical field.  Applicants must be an overall good citizen who is active in community service and/or volunteer work. Preference is given to students planning to attend Hope College and have been active in band, cheer and/or dance.

The scholarship application opens at the Shiawassee Community Foundation on October 1, 2022. Last year, the foundation awarded 150 scholarships to area students.

“Each year, we are honored to carry on the legacy of so many community members through our scholarships,” commented foundation director Kim Renwick. “It’s not only a way to honor the lives of so many, it’s a way to strengthen the future of our communities.”

To reach endowed status, funds must reach a balance of $10,000. A portion of the interest from that balance is used each year to support the post-high school careers of local students.
